“Japan is sounding the alarm about a demographic crisis. Last chance to reverse the trend”: The Japanese are ahead of the rest of the planet towards extinction – the country’s birth rate has been declining for the eighth year in a row and has reached a new low.
“According to Japan's Ministry of Health, the country's birth rate fell 5.1% to 758,631, remaining below the 2022 thousand mark. The country's population could decline by about 30%, to 87 million by 2070, according to the National Institute of Population Research. At the same time, elderly people aged 65 years and older will make up 40% of the population. Such projections highlight Japan's long-term challenges in maintaining its social infrastructure and economic vitality.
As the situation worsens, government officials are sounding the alarm. “The next six years or so, until 2030, when the number of young people will decline rapidly, will be the last chance to reverse this trend.”
